Craps is a very popular game, and it can be very profitable if you know how to play correctly. The rules are complex, but you can play without knowing all the rules

At a craps table, there are four workers. The first is a boxman. He guards the chips, and watches the whole game. There are two dealers. They stand on either side of the boxman, and they control the chips. They collect losing bets, and pay winner. The worker who is closest to the action is the stickman. The stickman stands across the table from the boxman. His job is to guard the dice. He gives the dice to the shooter, and calls out every roll. Before the first roll, players make their first set of wagers. The first roll of the dice is called the "come out roll." The stickman gives the shooter five dice, and the shooter chooses two dice. He throws the dice, and they must hit the wall of the table and bounce off of it.

The shooter continues throwing the dice until he or she "sevens out," meaning that the dice on the table add up to seven.

There are number of possible bets that can be placed by the shooter or anyone at the table.

The first betting round is the "Pass Line Bet" or the "Don't Pass Line Bet"

Pass Line or Don't Pass Line bets are placed before the first roll of the dice.

Pass Line: The bet wins if the come-out roll is 7 or 11. If the roll is 2, 3, or 12, the best automatically loses. If the roll is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, it becomes what is known as the point number. If the shooter shoots that number before the next time he rolls a 7, then the pass line bet wins.

Don't Pass Line: The bet wins if the roll is 2 or 3, and loses if the bet is 7 or 11. 12 is a push, meaning that bets are returned. If the roll is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, as above, that number becomes the point number. If the shooter shoots 7 before he rolls the point number, the player wins the bet.

Come Bet: A come bet is similar to a pass line, except that it can be made before any roll. When you make a come bet, the next roll serves as your new "come out roll," meaning that if the next roll is 7 or 11, you'll win. 2, 3, or 12 will make you lose, and if you roll you can get a new point number.

Don't Come Bet: A don't come bet is exactly like a don't pass line, but, like a come bet, it can be placed at any time.

The line and come bets have the best craps odds, but there are several other bets to choose from, as well.

Place Bets and Buy Bets: A place bet is like a come bet, except you choose your point number. You can choose any of the point numbers - 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, and if your number is rolled before the shooter rolls a seven, you'll win.Buy bets are the same, except that you pay a house commission and get better odds.

Lay Bet: A lay bet is similar to a don't come bet, but you choose your point number, and you have to pay a commission to the casino.

Field Bet: A field bet is a bet on the very next roll. A field bet bets that the next roll will be 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12. Usually the pay-off for a 2 or 12 is better, but the odds are still highly in the casino's favor. Unlike many bets, this is a bet only on the very next roll.

Big Six or Eight Bet: This is like placing on six or eight, but with worse odds. The only time big six or eight is worthwhile is if you have a comp voucher that can only be used on even odds bets, or to exceed the table limits on a bet.

Proposition Bets: Proposition bets give you the best payoffs, because you have the worst odds.

Hardway Bets: Hardway bets are a type of proposition bet. You can choose 4, 6, 8, or 10, and make a wager that the shooter will roll your number "the hard way," that is, with paired dice. If the shooter rolls your number "the easy way," you forfeit your bet. So, for example, if you choose hardway 4, and the shooter rolls a 3 and a 1 before he rolls two twos, you lose.

Any Seven Bet: You bet that the next roll will be a seven. It doesn't matter how the seven is formed.

Any Craps Bet: Any Craps means that if the next roll is 2, 3, or 12, you will win.
